Portrait of me by Shimpei Shirafuji

This is a portrait of me by my good friend Shimpei Shirafuji circa early 2009. I went on a photo road-trip across the country with Shimpei last year. Shimpei is about to embark on another road- trip across the country but this time he'll be traveling on a Greyhound bus. You can see his work here - http://shimpeishirafuji.com/
Good luck Shimpei!

New Camera and Mark Armstrong

This is a video of my dear and good friend Mark Armstrong. I was testing out the video feature on my new little Canon elph. This actually looks a lot better when it's not compressed for web.

The first Male Gaze T-shirt

I designed this t-shirt for my band's first show. I appropriated the imagery from a photograph of Jimmy Stewart in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. I also used the artist Barbara Kruger as a source of inspiration for the typeface. This was something I did it really fast and simple but I thought it turned out pretty successful.

The Male Gaze @ Woolpertinger's May 14, 2010

My band The Male Gaze performed it's first show on May 14, 2010 at Woolpertinger's Talent Showcase in Syracuse, N.Y. From the very beginning, the band started out as an art-school joke - not taking ourselves seriously at all. We elevated our non-serious status by taking promotional band photo's of ourselves before we had actually managed to practice together. It was a slow and at times laborious process for us to get together to practice but we finally managed to get some song's together. I was really excited and nervous to perform on the actual day. I hadn't performed in a band since my high school days back in the 90's. We had a three song set - two originals and concluded the show with a cover of "Cut your Hair" by Pavement. I had also made promotional Male Gaze t-shirts to celebrate the performance. This was a definite highlight moment for me in my Syracuse graduate career. I truly hope we have a few more shows somewhere down the line. Here's a few photos and videos from the performance. Photos taken by the talented Miss Colleen Woolpert. Cell phone videos provided by Jennifer Wright and Steve Sewell.

Spring Semester class 2010

I really enjoyed teaching again this spring semester. Overall, I had really good class. I felt my students pushed me to become a better teacher. I also had a few difficult students which challenged me in other ways but still I wouldn't change a thing. The best part was I got to watch a few them walk down the aisle and graduate. I was truly flattered when I was asked to do a photo-op with them afterwards... Cheers Guys!
